Sparky Turned Marketing Guru Ian Marsh Shares His Secret To Success

If you’re Business Owner feeling like your spinning your wheels and stuck in a financial rut, electrician-turned business mentor and best-selling author Ian Marsh says there’s one sure-fire way to turn it all around – change your life ‘story’.

If you grew up around people that did  not have a lot of money, and life always seemed to be a bit of a struggle then there is a good chance that a story of struggle has largely been programmed into you having you believe this is how life has to be.   And if you are not careful. you could very well prove those around you RIGHT!,  says the CEO of The Streetsmart Business School.

But it doesn’t have to be that way, Ian tells TV host Sarah Harris in the third series of Game Changers, The Carousel’s hit video and podcast series featuring inspiring Australians.

“You’ve got to learn that you can create whatever story (life) you want, but you’ve got to be willing to go out there and grab it,” adds the author of new book The Inconvenient Truth about Business Success.

Ian decided to change his Story the day he fell head-over-heels in love with his now wife Jenny at 35.

Fearing she’d never think he was good enough to marry unless his fortunes took an abrupt upward turn, the broke sparky snuck into a Sydney money expo searching for answers.

His life changed forever the second he heard internationally-renowned millionaire maker Mal Emery speaking on stage. (Ian’s first mentor)

“I’ll never forget what he said, ‘I’ve got no problem with you being broke, but I’ve got a real problem with you staying broke’.

“I thought, ‘man, this bloke knows what he’s talking about, I’ve got to listen to you’.”

With Mal as his mentor, Ian built his first $12million-plus business in just three years, married Jenny and had the world at his feet.

The bubble burst when an ‘internal system failure’ sent him spiralling into bankruptcy, but Ian tells Sarah that his love and devotion for his family pulled him through.

“Here’s the thing Sarah; it’s your self-worth that determines where you go,” says the school-of-hard-knocks’ graduate. “Whether you feel you’re worthy or you don’t, it’s your choice.

“I thought there’s no way I could let my family down so decided to do it all again.

“Really you can’t ever be broke once you have this knowledge; as long as you don’t give up on yourself, that’s really important Sarah.”

Ian now helps others rewrite their ‘story’ at The Streetsmart Business School, one of Australia’s most successful program for creating business millionaires, and multi-millionaires.

“Ninety per cent of the work is to help them realise that they are worthy of the things they want to accomplish,” he tells Sarah.

“They know in their heart they can do it, but it’s pretty scary to step out of the comfort zone into the growth zone.”

Ian says the secret is to take responsibility and face the “inconvenient truth” about your success in life so far.

“That’s when you’re going to really get those massive rewards – and if I can do it, then sure as hell anyone else in Australia can.”
